Collecting as practice
I collect what moves me.
Over the past six years, that instinct has grown into a personal collection of more than 4,000 digital works. There are artists I’ve followed for years, artists whose work I bought the moment I saw it, and artists I discovered because another collector told me I needed to pay attention.
The collection is personal, but collecting has also changed how I understand art. Living with this much work makes you notice connections. Artists influence one another. Technologies change. Entire aesthetics appear, explode and sometimes disappear. What felt like a moment starts to look like a history.
My personal collection is separate from the MoDDA collection. While MoDDA’s Founding Collection grew in part from works I originally collected personally, the museum has its own collection, mandate and institutional stewardship.
What you see here is something different.
A changing selection from the work I live with.
